TMS for Depression

Around 300 million people worldwide struggle to control this disease, and more medication is not always the answer. The Sequenced Treatment Alternatives to Relieve Depression (STAR*D) study evaluated feasible treatment strategies to improve clinical outcomes for real-world patients with treatment-resistant depression and found that the likelihood of remission of symptoms dropped to just 6% after the 4th anti-depressant trial. Meanwhile, side effects for each new anti-depressant increased to ~41% after the 4th anti-depressant trial. Neurostar TMS offers a new way forward (Rush et al., 2006)

Is TMS Right for me?

Eighty-three percent of patients see a clinically significant improvement in symptoms, and up to 62 percent experience a full remission. By contrast, people who have tried 3 or more medications have only a 7 percent chance of a good response with additional medication trials (Rush et al., 2006)

TMS offers an evidence-based, safe, and effective alternative to ongoing medication management. People who receive TMS remain on medication but may reduce the overall number of medications, reducing dosing or preventing the addition of more medication.
